The OC Takes A Slide In The Ratings

I scored an article that has some ratings if you have not seen them already for the first two episodes. It does not look good for The OC getting more episodes past the original order of sixteen. I think we can all expect this to be the last season unless some miracle happens. I know most don’t want to hear this but I am being realistic at this point. I will continue to watch and hope for the best. Check out the article below.

In what the network billed as a special Wednesday night airing, “O.C.” averaged a 1.5 in adults 18-49 last night at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, matching last week’s season premiere in its usual Thursday 9 p.m. slot. It tied for fourth in the timeslot.
Though the show was up week to week among 18-34s, from a 1.7 for its premiere to a 2.1 last night, that merely tied for fourth in the timeslot with the CW’s “One Tree Hill.” Among teens, “Hill” doubled “O.C.’s” averaged with a 2.9 to the latter’s 1.3.
Among total viewers, “O.C.” averaged 3.52 million, a few thousand more than “Hill.” It drew 3.38 million for its premiere.
Last week’s numbers were less than half what “O.C.” drew for its third-season premiere a year ago. Though certainly some of the problem was airing against tough competition on Thursday, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and CBS’s “CSI,” that doesn’t explain all of the viewer drain.
And things didn’t improve last night. Though again it was a tough timeslot, opposite the first-half finale of “Lost” and CBS’s “Criminal Minds,” “O.C.” ranked among the lowest-rated shows on any Big Four network this season.
Some have speculated that the producers angered fans by killing off Mischa Barton’s Marissa last May. Others say the writing on the program began going stale in season two.
But reviews of this fourth season have been generally positive, saying it has regained its sharp season one wit. Fox reportedly did not order a full season of the show, so it may be off the schedule by midseason if ratings don’t improve.
As of now, “O.C.” will run another original episode tonight in its usual 9 p.m. slot.
Meanwhile, sweeps leader ABC also led the night with a 5.1 rating and 13 share in adults 18-49, followed by CBS at 4.5/12, NBC at 3.0/8, Fox at 2.2/6, the CW at 2.1/5, and Univision at 1.4/4.
ABC led the first two hours, starting with “Dancing with the Stars” at 8 p.m., which drew a 5.2. “Jericho” was second at 3.0, followed by Fox’s “Bones” at 2.8, NBC’s “Biggest Loser” and CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” at 2.6, and Univision’s “La Fea Mas Bella” at 2.0.
At 9 p.m., “Lost” led with a 7.0 for that first-half finale. It will return with new episodes in February. CBS’s “Criminal Minds” was second with a 5.1. “Minds” outdrew “Lost” in total viewers for the second straight week, 17.5 million to 17.1 million, though “Lost” continues to hold a large lead in 18-49s. NBC’s “Loser” was third at 3.6, followed by “O.C.” and “Hill” at 1.5, and Univision’s “Mundo de Fieras” at 1.4.
At 10 p.m., CBS’s “CSI: NY” was first with a 5.4, followed by ABC’s “The Nine” and NBC’s “Dateline” at 3.0 apiece and Univision’s “Don Francisco Presenta” at a 1.0.
Among households, ABC led with a 9.7/15, followed by CBS at 9.4/15, NBC at 4.9/8, Fox at 3.5/6, the CW at 2.9/4, and Univision at 1.9.3.

ok this really sucks because i love the oc and i dont think anyone who dosnt watch it knows how good it is it dosnt deserve those ratings but on the up side josh and the team like to focus on the creative side so not to focus much on if it gets high ratings because of ott moments but the oc has improved greatly since season 3 even though i liked s3 myself

OC is the best show in the world and it can’t end! America please watch Fox so that the ratings go up. Its a great show even though one of the main characters is gone. So just give its a chance!
i really dont think they should base it on 18 above!!! it is kinda a more teeny show… it should be a lower age…
FOX should keep it on wednesday one more night(next wendnesday) cause there won’t be a Lost ep and that way the OC can get move viewers. and i dissagree with you latinboy07, the OC is more mature(college) so it attracts the older viewers. OTH is a teeny show
Fox’s fading The O.C. finished a distant fourth, with a mere 3.71 million viewers and a 1.5/ 4 among adults 18-49. Comparably, year-ago failed occupant Reunion was a stronger option at 4.01 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 in the demo. Word of advice to the residents of Orange County: get those trendy bags packed!
The OC is going up:
Episode 1, “The Avangers” — 3.38 Million Viewers
Episode 2, “The Gringos” — 3.58 Million Viewers
Episode 3, “The Cold Turkey” — 3.71 Million Viewers.

I don’t know….the ratings are going up with every episode…does anyone think there is any hope that FOX will order a full season?? I guess next week will be another test with Lost being off now until February, hopefully that will help!!

hmmmmm this certainly sucks..
i always enjoyed watching The OC..It always had this awesome atmosphere that most of the other shows don’t have… I agree that season 2 and 3 weren’t good as season 1. But season 4 certainly feels a lot like season 1…and i have a feeling that season 4 has the potential to lift off… However i just feel that the show might have to brighten up a bit then and now, with some more witty humour, like the one when Seth goes to Brown in season 3.. I was laughing my ass out when seth becomes Kumar Zibberman,a “hinjew”.
But there is no point rambling on how great the show is and why it should have a full season and go on, unless more people watch it…it’s simple as that… please get more people to watch it…get your friends to watch it…promote the show… right now, there is a lot of “bad press” abt this show.. It needs all the help it can get…
omg…if the ratings dont go up i will be so sad…i love the o.c. and i was already thinking that this was going to be the last season because marissa is gone and its effecting the show big time….all i can say is watch the o.c. its not as bad as people think it is…its really good.

I love the O.C. It is pretty much the only show I watch, I own all of the seasons and have started watching them from the beginning yet another time. True, The O.C. isn’t the same without Marissa but it’s still the best show on tv! It NEEDS to go on!!!

In my opinion the ratings are down because marissa(Mischa Barton) left, she had a very interesting story line, but the ratings will hopefully go up because of Kaitlens new storyline it seems to be very interesting, I am in South Africa so I havent seen an episode of season 4 yet but I have read the previews and it looks good

I just love the oc. I hope that the show does not end. I will just be so sad. I live in Australia and everyone I no will not do anything on a tuesday night cause the oc is on. I loved last season and i think this on will get better people just have to give it time.What is with all the good showes ending. There is no sex and the city no friends and no dawsons creek. Honestly. The O.C. is a good show but it is still not as good when Marisa was on the show. She was the drama, and now it just seems like the same things are happening in every season. For example: Summer and Seths relationship problems, Ryan playing tough guy, Sandy always saving the show, and a cracked out mom. I don’t want it off the air, it used to be one of my favorite shows. I just want to see it improve. The o.c isnt the only show this is happening to though.. for example.. Americas Next Top Model. Used to be one of my favorite shows.. but Tyra, wow ANNOYING! She deminstrates on how to model..hun ur all washed up now. She looks like a fool when she does it, and half the girls on there are not even pretty, or have had poor pictures and others who are at leaset okay are voted off. I think with that show what happened was they are keeping people for drama… come on its t.v.. thats what happens!
I think a good episode would be, Summer and Seth get back together, and Seth shows a suprise visit to summer only to fine her with some collage guy. Summer becomes the new Marisa and becomes drama… Mrisas sister becomes the new summer.. and there we go. Oh and ryan finds this girls that makes him have flash backs of Marissa because they are so similar, and cant stand it. While they are “hooking up” Ryan calls ger Marisa causing problems..
Why does the OC have to compete with Greys Anatomy when ABC shows the same episode of Greys Anatomy on Thursday at 9:00 and Friday at 8:00. I don’t expect to see a fifth season of the OC but I do want to see the end of the fourth. What is the point in starting a good season if you’re not going to finish it.
The OC is the best show on tv… period. So what that they killed marissa off… she was so complex. The show needed something new. Season one was the best by far… although seasons 2 and 3 were awesome, the writing for season 4 is much more like that of season one. I was a little worried how season 4 was going to deal with all the changes… but it is actually really good. I love this show! I hope that there will be many more seasons! Everyone keep watching!!!!!!!

can i just say that while it is a good show to watch and have a healthy interest in, some of you people act like your life depends on a TV show. and where does this question of being a ‘true’ fan come into it? it’s not like they are a football team who you stick with thru thick and thin or jump of the ship when its flagging because there is way way way higher probability of the TV show being cancelled than of the football team shutting down. plus its not like there is anything to win at the end of the season which will cause great joy whereas if the team you support wins, then the fans all go ballistic.

I’d have to say that I loved the whole Marissa, Ryan thing but let’s face it…and I know I’m going to make a few people mad here but she was the most annoying and worst actress of them all. There’s really a strong cast now and I’d have to say that tonights episode was amazing and yes now I’m routing for taylor. Watched last season but eh….If lot’s of people did the same as me and watched the first episodes on line they are sure to be hooked again and will support the show and watch it on fox. The ratings are sure to go up…atleast I hope cuz I would so miss seeing Ben, Adam and Rachael every week. Don’t let “TOO GOOD FOR O.C MISCHA” win by letting the show get cancelled.
P.S for anyone that didn’t know Mischa LEFT the show, they didn’t fire her or anything, so get over it and appreciate the ones who renewed there contracts and still stuck with the show.

My question is why, why aren’t people watching the show like the used to? Is it because Marissa is gone? The story line is amazing the Season Premiere blew me away, everything about it was brought together so perfectly. These first four episodes have been the best one’s I believe I’ve seen yet. I like this show, always have. I remember when it first premiered hearing that catchy California song and being introduced to this new world. Seriously what gets people to watch a show? Is it the stars? Story line? I really want to know because the show still has amazing star power, potential to easily be the best season right now.
O man I Have always loved watching the o.c and i hope many and many more seasons are yet to come. In my opinion i think that trey (ryans brother) should come back because it would make the show alot better agian and also i hope luke and jimmy come back because sonner or later there gonna have to come by to see marissa’s grave and it would make the show alot more intresting. So hopfully u guys think bout that cause that will make the show a whole lot BETTER!!!! but know matter what i will always waych THE O.C!!!!

i think that the o.c is good i luv the o.c it is my favorite shows it has the twists and turns which makes it interesting i think it would have been better this year if they hadnt taken out mishca barton its not the .o.c without her i mean it is still goood this year i think they should do the o.c for a while i also think that they should make taylor and ryan date i think that would be good

I can not live without the O.C. It is the BEST show ever and can go for 8 seasons or more. I love season 4 alot more than 2-3 but 2-3 was good. I really hope Taylor and Ryan get together, I think that would be sooo cool.
I really hope the ratings go up soon, or we might have to picket FOX network and sign a petition to get it back.

oh and get it right mischa barton didnt leave the oc. she was really disapointed when the network said they had to end big to get veiwers back. she was devstsated but has moved on by scoring roles in upcoming movies. i’ll find the article for u if you want. i read it in the summer while i was at worrk at our pool. it was about 11am. hot rainy. and i could smell nasty hot dogs cooking (i worked at a pool concession stand lmao) for vollunteer
and even tho i love mischa barton more than life. i am a dedicated oc watcher and it hasnt stopped me from watching this season. and i recorded it and watched it about 3 times each lol
I heard the same thing about Mischa NOT wanting to leave the show! I think this is true as well… Either way, with or without Marissa its still an AMAZING show and I don’t want it to end!!!! It needs to be like Friends and have like 10 freakin seasons or whatever!

Sorry guys but I didn’t read it I saw Mischa say it in an interview, but no matter I love the cast and I like where they are going and has anybody heard how the ratings are now. I think next weeks a repeat again then a new episode in two weeks (how do networks seem to keep viewers when they do THAT all the time.) And I’m hoping they stick with the show and hang in there cuz I’m sure people would miss it. I don’t want it to be one of those shows they end up cancelling but enough people are still watching it, so the network plays repeats of repeats (for exsmple My so Called Life, there was only one season and it still being shown.)

It’s so not fair that they count from 18 and above! I know a ton of people that watch it but they’re around 16 and 17, they should lower the age because if they did the ratings would definitely go up. The OC is the best show on the air, it would suck if they canceled it, especially during the season. So everyone watch and help the ratings.

i agree that they should lower the age for the ratings b/c it would definitaly go up. I am 15 and all my friends watch it so i think that there are a ton of people under 18 who watch it so lowering the age would be a good thing and we wouldn’t have to woory about saying goodbye to the oc! Oh, and i think ryan taylor = bad!!! I really don’t like them together (not b/c i still think about marissa) because they just arn’t right for each other and it will make the show weird. And I think whoever had the idea about bringing back trey and jimmy is great, that is such a good idea. I hate it when they bring totally new characters into the mix i would rather see old ones come back (JUST NOT TERESA!!! Anyway, i hope this season finishes off with 24 episodes and it doesn’t end up going off air. Without the oc, tv would be so boring, there are no show out there that even compare to the oc and none ever will. I don’t mind the time slot that the oc is in b/c here in canada it is on at 7:00pm which allows you to still watch all the other shows. k here it goes. we all r a little sad that marissa is dead but there must be a purpose the show wanted her off. maybe its cool that the show had a change. what i mean is that its kind of cool that the story changes and that everybody is always happy. a little suspense and drama may be great for the show. i saw the first episode a couple of weeks ago and it was just great. we all know that the oc is one of the greatest tv shows fox has ever transmited and we have to see it so we have maybe a fifth season. i really dont ask for that but i would sure like to see how at least the fourth season end not be cancelled. so people please see the oc we dont want it to go!!
As much as i would like a fifth season i really don’t think it is going to happen. I would be happy if it was the last season b/c they have had a successful 3 seasons so far and besides, everyone who loves it can just watch the seasons on dvd!
Ah i am loving the OC season 4 so far! I was abit sceptical at first but after finally catching up on the first 4 episodes i am really really enjoying! I absolutely love Ryan and Taylor she is so funny and think they could be quite a cute couple! Please please please let it get a full season it is getting better with every episode! I esp loved episode 3! It did make me cry abit though! Save the OC!

we actually know them. these people we’re apart of their lives. we’ve been through everything with them.. from ryan and marissa’s first kiss on the ferris wheel to seth fleeing orange county on his sailboat. i know that i can at least say for myself and my friends (jodi and Kristin) that we’ve never given up on the show and have laughed and shared tears through it all.. if we all just continue to watch and just enjoy whatever time is left of it..
