The OC Has Been Officially Cancelled
Published January 3rd, 2007 in General OC News.
Yes folks it’s officially official, Fox today announced the last show of Season 4 and the series finale will air February 22nd at which time The OC will end it’s run on Fox. New episodes start January 4th and will run through the finale. A few quotes from Josh are below about the show and how it’s ending.
“This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” O.C. creator and executive producer Josh Schwartz said in a statement. “Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top.”
“It has been an amazing experience and a great run,” Schwartz said. “For a certain audience, at a certain time, The O.C. has meant something. For that we are grateful.”
It sure is a sad day in OC land, RIP The OC.

I am saddened beyond belief. This cannot be happening to one of the best shows ever on TV. I cannot believe that Josh or others did not fight for the continuation of the OC whether it be on FOX or another channel. So many people will be devestated by this.

Mischa Barton was one of the main people on the show. After she left it wasn’t the same! But they didn’t have to cancel it. They just need some new interesting people on the show because Taylor SUCKS!

Awh, this is my favourite show. I have the seasons on dvd and I have recently got my friend addicted to the show. Therefore it is going to be sad seeing it go, but yes I agree that this it is better to end it when the show is on top. Although I wish it would have lasted longer than it has.
Well I look forward to the coming episodes as I like what the direction that the story has taken this season.
To the cast and crew…may you find another job that gives you as much success as you have found with The O.C.

this is devastating news, and i am truly saddened beyond belief. I think that if anything, to make it up to viewers and fans Fox should air an episode a couple months after the show is finished to tell us what is up with our friends in the OC. What is it going to be like if we don’t know where Summer Roberts is, or what new stunt Julie Cooper is pulling. What about the Cohens, and Ryan, what’s going to happen to them. Where will we see our favourite actors next? Movies, other TV shows?? A follow-up episode would bring back viewers to catch up on favourite people, and who knows, maybe when they see that there’s billions of people watching they could re-create the show… If there is anyone from Fox that reads this website, please run this idea past your boss!!

I’m sooo sad!!! Even though Mischa Barton was killed off, I was still a strong fan of The O.C. I still wanted to see the rest of Season 4. I’m upset that the finale is early and I’m hoping that the rest of the “episodes” can be seen through the Season 4 DVD. I’m gonna miss the entire cast!! You guys did a GREAT job!! I love the O.C.!!!
OC was one of the best shows ever! I was never really much of a T.V watcher, but when I started watching the OC, I couldn’t stop! I pulled an all nighter one night because I couldn’t close my eyes watching an entire season! It’s awesone, one of the greatest shows made! Fox Corp did the same thing (killing a show) with Family Guy a couple of years back, remember? Due to outstanding support and record breaking sales of the DVD season, they realised how ridiculously wrong they were to put the show to rest. I love OC as well, and although the Barton thing did hinder the marketing for the show a little, Fox did not leave nearly enough time for the casting directors to grab another one of Paris Hilton’s entourage into the OC mix. Lets hope that our $$ speaks as loud as it did for Peter Griffin & co.

This is one of the best shows and now they are cancelling it… I hope there will be a season 5 in the futur, but i must admit, there hasn’t been a season as good as season 1. That’s the best season of a serie I have ever seen! Thx to the creators and cast members. It was indeed a bit stupid that Mischa Barton died and try to replace her by Taylor (Autumn Reeser)

I am very sad to hear that FOX is cancelling the show. After Marissa left I realized just how much the show never needed her in the first place, she was a blah, depressing character who never gave anything to the show anyway. i enjoy the show so much better without her,
Fox does this frequently they pick up a great show with a great cast of characters and then take it off the air. This show is what so many of us live vicariously through…like Bev 90210 and Melrose Place…all good things must come to an end…however if Fox knew that of all the teenage shows out there…new and old this is the best one by far..

Less than 4 million viewers is the reason it got cancelled, not because it was doing so great they wanted to go out on top of the game.
I really could care less about a bunch of snobs from Newport (I went to Newport Harbor High School 1994-1996 before moving out of state), but my girlfriend watched it religiously and so I started to watch and really got into it last spring. It really is a shame they’re taking off the air such a great show.

Ok, I have had it with the cancellations of good shows. There is no way you know that this show doesn’t have enough viewers, how can that possibly be determined on a few shows. Yeah, think about it, The shows season just started and there hasn’t been enough runs to even determine the amount of viewers that watch. I watch it. My whole family looks forward to it. I know…..You have to make room for another REALITY SHOW, right. Well don’t bother….I won’t be watching it. Reality shows are taking over TV and it sucks. The OC was one of the few good shows worth watching. If you cancel this show, you won’t have anything to hold any viewers. Fox will have nothing worth watching! If your blaming it on Mischa Barton leaving the show, please…she isn’t all that. There are other members of the cast that are worth watching. They are all great.

I am so mad the you cancelled the OC. The show was finally taking a new spin. The OC is the only real teenage or young adult drama show on tv now and you go and take it away. FOX you cancel everything it is no wonder your ratings always drop its because you are never very consistent with anything. I never even used to watch anything on FOX until the OC got started and now look what you went and did. they show started its downfall last season with all the Johnny crap, then they killed off Marissa, I didnt like either of those characters but atleast it made people watch the show. Before cancelling, why not try moving it into a different time slot. Don’t run it up against CSI Investigation and Greys Anatomy. Two other really good shows. If you put it on before these shows, you might find more people will watch.

I just found this out, I can’t believe it. I set aside Thursday nights just for this show, I have all 3 seasons on DVD and planning on getting the fourth! as much as this news saddens me i knew it was coming. the non stop talk about the oc episode on friday mornings at school is not the same. no one is gathered around to discuss the latest hook-up or wtv. a lot of the times the oc is mentioned many ppl do not care as much anymore. i am really dissappointed about this decision bc i’ve been following the oc since it started. i love the characters and the storylines and i love being in front of my tv thursday nights ready for whats next. its weird but the show just makes me happy. the intelligent writing and the great on-screen chemistry.. its all just really great to watch. i hope season 4 will be available on dvd bc i will definately add it to the collection. a job well done writers and actors! it was amazing while it lasted! thanks for the great laughs and memories!
I am very saddened at the cancelling of The O.C. I am an adult viewer (we’ll say older than 30!) and The O.C. is the first show I have watched religiously since the Beverly Hills 90210 era. Granted, the writing hasn’t always been the greatest, but the cast is awesome and the emotional feel of the show was very real.
Besides the whole Ryan/Marissa story, I really enjoyed the Sandy/Ryan father son relationship and the confidence the writers had in the Sandy/Kirsten pairing and their desire to keep them together no matter what.
I hope the show is picked up by another network, but if it isn’t, I think the writers, cast, crew and everyone involved with the show can leave knowing that their show made a difference to people. It wasn’t just another teen drama.
As far as the FOX network goes, they made it abundantly clear that they were not dedicated to the show this year. There was little or no (that I saw) promotion of the show and they were given a very tough time slot to work with. It was almost as though they had made up their minds to cancel it before the season even started. I think making the season premiere wait until after baseball was huge mistake. If another network picks up the show, I will follow it to wherever it goes.

It’s true after Marissa died, The O.C. died a little. However the last two shows have been amazing.So maybe there was a set back, but no need for giving up on the entire fucking season, like wtf? Maybe if you move to a different different time slot, more people would watch it.You have to look back on the awesome last three seasons, and how well they did. They could of made The O.C. better insted of making arragments to take it off the air.
Without even finishing the season? now that’s pathetic. I’m really dissappointed and I know a bunch of my friends will be too. I really hope they put what there is of fourth season out on dvd. It better be one amazing grand finaly!

I cannot believe that Fox is cancelling the OC. This seriously is the best season yet and I was looking forward to what the future was to bring. This is a serious mistake for Fox and the creator of the OC. They are making a HUGE mistake because so many people love this show. It is very clear from the Internet postings that fans are devastated to say the least. Unfortunately, so far hands seemed to be tied at The C.W. if The O.C. Production team is not willing to continue with the show. I am still hearing that Josh Schwartz (O.C. creator) left the door open should representatives from The C.W. wish to contact him, but both sides seem to be reluctant at present. Schwartz may feel he did his best and now is the time to let it go. The C.W. is not going to beg to keep the show alive and doesn’t want to pay the money to put it on their network if it is a remnant of its former self.
All I can say is that it sounds like the end. Is there any hope? Yes there is, but it is certainly a steep uphill battle that may not be worth the fight if O.C. personnel are at peace with this conclusion. Fans who are not willing to give up just yet should know that Warner Brothers produces The O.C. and also owns The CW network. Both parties know where to find each other if they want to sit down and consider making a deal. Fans can contact The CW affairs office by email at feedback@cwtv.com and respectfully tell the network why you would like them to continue The O.C. along with your commitment to watch. In the end it would take a lot of fan support, so much that if it was going to happen, it should have happened long ago in the form of ratings and then we would not even have to be discussing this. Never say never, but the fan support would have to be huge.

We are massive OC fans, who are loving season 4 (even without Mischa). This is an abomination!!!! The OC was the best series ever. It had a brilliant mixture of sadness, twists, comedy and great scripts. It was quite simply brilliant. Should have continued on to season 5, 6, 7… but the “damn network wouldn’t allowed it!!!” (T4)

I can’t even put into words how sad I am. Thursday night was The OC Pizza Night. I have scheduled my college classes around this show ever since it started in 2003! I think Marissa was a great character at first but after awhile her character became way too pathetic. I was happy she was gone but then noticed Summer was turning into the depressed one. I thought Summer was out of her depression two shows ago after leaving Brown but last weeks episode proved otherwise. The week before last when Ryan and Taylor went into comas was what I thought would be a turnaround for the show, that episode was well directed and put together. Last week with the alien party and the randomness of it all was a little dissapointing for me. I love all of The OC mix cds and The OC has opened many doors for up and coming musicians. Unfortunately, the show doesn’t have the same feel as it did when it first begun but I am still sad to see it go. Does anyone know for sure if Mischa was fired or left the show on her own? I heard she was kicked off. RIP The OC! And to all you haters out there…why the hell do you care anyways and why are so concerned with this blog in the first place if you think this show is so dumb? No one here cares about what you think.
I’m pretty surprised they cancelled it, but c’mon now. Wouldn’t you rather they go out with a bang? This season is great so far, and I’m actually getting into it again. I didn’t watch the other seasons after season one. That season was great too - I actually bought that season on DVD, but I didn’t even watch the other seasons. I was glad that they killed off Marissa, and I love Taylor!
I would rather them cancel I now before they get another chance to ruin it. There’s only so much the OC can dramatize. I’d rather they end it now before they try to add so much more drama to it and ruin it like they’ve done with the 2nd and 3rd seasons.

um. so okay…the oc was honestly the best show until Marissa was killed. the show probably would have been 100% better otherwise. they could have done sooo much with the next couple seasons and i was really looking forward to how they were gonna make it better after marissa died. i really thought they would have pulled it off, but it just didn’t happen and i thought this was the worst season ever. it really really sucks because i loved waiting and getting excited for the next episode or the next season. the oc had everyone watching the first-third season…so what happened? i don’t know, but i’m kind of happy that they decided to end it because it would of just kept sucking if they’d continued and they would of had no audience. but i think the writers of the show have something & they should definatly come out with a new show similar but a better story line to really draw the audience from the OC and others in.

I’m so sad to see the OC go but I think most of can agree it doesn’t have that special something it used to have. The producers ordered 16 episodes for the season and the Feb 22nd finale will have been 16 episodes. I think OC was a great starter for a lot of the actors and now many of them, such as Barton, Brody, and Bilson have all moved on since the start. I’ll be so upset to see it go off air, but if the producers truly feel it’s for the best and the actors are ready to leave- I’ll just have to deal.
