The OC Ranks 2nd Among DVR Users

Like me and alot of the TV viewing public I don’t watch shows when they are shown in their proper timeslots because I am simply to busy or not at home when said show is on. Instead I use Tivo so at a later date when I have the time I can sit down, relax and watch the show commercial free. This is fast becoming a growing trend as DVR devices make their way into most US homes.
According to an article on Media Daily News The OC ranked second with a 15% average of 18 to 49 year-old viewers watching from a DVR within 7 days of the show. The percentage represents the increase between the “live” rating and “live plus seven” rating. “Live plus seven” adds viewership via DVRs in the seven days after broadcast to the number of people that watched in real-time.
If you were confused by that then you are not alone, basically what it’s saying is that 15% of the people record The OC instead of watching it live because they feel it’s a show they can watch a few days later instead of say like a show like Desparate Houswives which ranks 34th on the list. Most people tune into Desparate Housewives because they can’t stand to miss the show and listen to folks the next day talk about it.
The article goes on to suggest that most people who watch The OC also watch other shows in the same time slot (ie.. Grey’s Anatomy and CSI) and thus record The OC because they don’t mind watching it later.
This is some interesting news as I thought the numbers would be different from what they are. This goes to show what I really know.

Yeah, I’d be curious to find out the answer that question as well. Considering I can’t stand desparate housewives and never miss a minute of the OC, I find it hard to fathom, I tivo the show while watching and tape it in case tivo goes out or something.
ya i want to know if its good or bad also. cause like yes good people watch it and iv been saying that all along. most of my friends tape oc and watch greys (i do opposite). but bad for commersials which is a money maker. so good or bad? and what does this mean for the show continuing? cause obviously people like it. any answers?

Its probably just a piece of informative news.
It’s really neither in my opinion because the DVR results are added to the actual ratings, so mostly it’s just informative.

As suspected, it has just been reported that Fox WILL NOT be picking up The O.C. for another season. While O.C. Producers are keeping their options close to the vest, so far it appears the cast and crew are reluctant to exercise negotiations for a possible move of the show to The C.W.; but rather accept their fate as the show has run its’ course and let’s end on a high note with fan support strong this fourth season. Is this really the end? Is it time to move on? Is there still a little life left in the tank?

IS THE OC REALLY GOING TO BE CANCELLED?
I DVR the O.C. because I have a 7 mo. old baby that doesn’t allow me to watch during that time slot. So I record the O.C. so I can watch it when she’s sleeping. I didn’t know that MY recording the O.C. was a bad thing. For the others… I don’t know. But I’m sure most of us that record the show doesn’t record it to watch other shows. I have co-employees that are O.C. fans and record it because they’re at work and don’t want to miss an episode.
Dats good, not the cancellation part tho.

Many people I know did struggle with having the only shows they like on the same night as the O.C. such as Grey’s Anatomy and CSI. It is crazy to think what the folks at Tivo really know about our TV habits.
About the O.C. cancellation, remember we can still make a difference..don’t despair. If enough people raise a fuss we should be able to keep it on the air.

OMg i cant believe this its an outrage…but as it shall be missed we will always have the dvds and that is a pleasure i have the oc game and if u dont i recomand getting it and seeing if u find the kistakes on it ill say one the say the seth has a wooden horse when its clear made to be a plastic horse…there are more….what did summer make seth lick off her finger???
Ok guys..u can do something to help. Go to http://www.fox.com/oc/savetheoc/ and sign the petition. Remember..its being cancelled because of the tv ratings are going down. So pass this on!!! The link AND tell EVERYONE to watch on thursdays. We have till February to save this show! And also..on that link..there’s an e-mail they give. Use it..i believe its lovetheoc@gmail.com [check on the link to make sure]. Use it!!! Its a very important person and tell them how much u love this show and why they should keep it. And to the tivo users that record this show..i just realized that you are very valuable to this. definitely make sure they know that u do that [record the show [because ur busy]]. Also make sure they know that the TiVo recording deal is probably why ratings arent that up..because watchers may not be watching it on Thursdays live..but on other days. Thanks guys!! A show like the OC simply was too big of a phenomenon and one point and STILL has far too large of a fan base and dedicated fans to end after only four seasons

The OC is being canceled because the world is changing. I guess people would rather watch shows where worms are eaten, were people solve murders, or were a bunch of strangers live together. Personaly, I think the show was great. My family has watched it from the beginning and will miss it greatly.

Well I don’t know if this is good news or bad news. I can say that it should be good news because even though people aren’t watching the show live they r still watching the show at a later time. It shouldn’t mater what time the show is being watched, PEOPLE ARE WATCHING. I work 40 hours a week and I don’t always get to watch the show live,but I have NEVER EVER missed an episode. The OC is by far the best show on TV right now.
Bummer, good show. I Tivo it because I CAN! I want to watch my favorite shows when I want to watch them. Somebody is putting WAY to much thought into the Tivo thing.

this is terrible… The OC got me through a lot of hard times in my life I always watch it it means a lot to me this week i checked both CTV and FOX but there was no OC espiode on it made me extremely upset… If they cancel this show I’ll cry Ryan represents all the troubled teens in the world. and Sandy represents the modern day me… please don’t cancel this show…
I was 16 when i found out my father was abusing drugs.. my mother could not handle having to care for three kids by her self. so she took off… my friends dad (social worker in corrections) took me in and i have always been touched my the OC show it actually focuses on reality…. please keep the OC going at least for another season it would mean so much too so many people, young and old.
We need the OC I love the show. My whole family watches the OC and my boyfriend and his roomate all watch the show and we are not teens we Love it. We want them to keep it on it is very good now and has only got better and better.

I’m so upset the show is ending. I watch it every Thursday.I never missed a episode. I hate when you get into a show that is as good as the O.C. and take it from you. This makes me feel like I never want to get into another T.V. show again. I loved how that show made me feel, it makes me feel the way they did on the show,I laughed,I cryed, I’m going to miss the O.C. This is B.S
